W. Morton In the death of Oriana White Morton, widow of Frank W. Morton South Boston township lost one of its old and well-known residents. Mrs. Morton was born August 4, 1845, on the homestead of her father, Timothy White, and here, with a short exception of a half-year in Salt Lake City in the 70’s, she lived until her death, which occurred March 16, 1919. In 1867 she was married to Frank W. Morton, who died in 1909. In the active work of those early years, the community knew her as a helpful and sympathetic member, always ready to care for the sick or to give her aid whenever she saw demand. She had no children and is survived by no relatives nearer than nephews and nieces but mothered many a boy and girl in her home both in her earlier and later years. Mrs. Morton was a devoted Christian and as long as her health permitted was an ardent worker in the Congregational (Union) church of which she was a member. In 1909, she suffered a fracture of the hip in a fall and from that time on had constant hardship and pain, which she bore with heroic fortitude. Naturally impatient and exceptionally active and vigorous, she met the changed conditions with an uncomplaining sweetness which touched every one who knew her. Her death came as a release which she coveted. To the community she will be one more of the old-time residents who have gone on; to those who loved and cared for her she still lives, not only in that immortal world in which she firmly trusted, but still in this world she lives “in pulses stirred to generosity; in lives made better by her presence.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/m/morton7528gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/mifiles/ File size: 2.2 Kb
