Mote, who for a number of years was a highly respected citizen of this vicinity, died at the home of his son, Isaac M. Mote in Grand Rapids, Sunday, May 9, 1920 at 1 p.m. He was the son of David and Nancy Mote and was born in Miami county, Ohio, Aug. 19, 1848. He was one of a family of five to grow to manhood and womanhood. He moved with his parents from Ohio to Michigan in 1886. Returning to Ohio he was united in marriage with Sarah B. Miller, of Darke county, Ohio, Dec. 12, 1869. They lived in Ohio until March 1879, when they moved to Michigan and settled in Campbell township, Ionia Co., in which vicinity he has lived nearly all the remainder of his life, excepting seven years in Lake Odessa. To this union were born three children, two sons and one daughter. One son died in infancy, the other son, Isaac M. Mote of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. Mina Geiser, of Campbell township being left to cheer his declining years. His companion departed this life Feb. 14, 1909, while they were residents of Lake Odessa, since which time he has resided mostly with his children. His father and mother, who were old residents of Campbell township died in 1903 and 1905, respectively, and his two brothers Emanuel, who was a resident of Woodland and David Anderson, who for many years has been a resident of Lake Odessa, died in the summer of 1916. He therefore, leaves to mourn their loss, one son, one daughter, three grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. M. B. Tobias of Campbell township and Mrs. L. B. Hulliberger of Marion, Mich., besides many other relatives and friends. He was a member of the old German Baptist church for over fifty years and served as deacon for about 35 years. He lived a faithful and consistent member until death, which occurred at the age of 71 years, 8 mos. and 20 days. The funeral was held Wednesday, May 12 at the old church in South Campbell where he had attended services and been a faithful worker for many years. Burial at Lakeside cemetery by the side of his companion. Those from away who were here to attend the funeral were Mrs. L. B. Hulliberger of Marion, Mich., Mr. and Additional Comments: Mrs. Jacob E. Miller and Mrs. M. B. Wise of Bradford, Ohio, Mrs. Frank Mosey and Mrs. Elmer Stocker of Lansing and Jacob H.
