He was born on April 1, 1929 in Grand Rapids the son of Ralph and Lucille (Simmons) Montgomery. Mr.Montgomery worked as a Machine repairman for General Motors for 38 years before retiring and was a proud member of the UAW. He along with his wife, Doris, attended Easton United Methodist church and he helped with the addition to the church.He enjoyed going to the Ionia Free Fair every year and loved the outdoors including water skiing, hunting, fishing, and sailing.He loved his family and friends, and was a true people person who would help anyone. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Alice Corey; brothers, Jack and Judson Montgomery; and sister, Marian Godden. Surviving are his wife of 60 years,Doris Montgomery of Ionia; children, Mary Montgomery Colvin of Saranac, Donna (Dick) Nees of Jackson, and David (Debra) Montgomery of Ionia son-in-law, Herbert Corey of Ionia; grandchildren, Nicholas Colvin, Sarah Nees, Matthew Nees, Joshua Montgomery, Melissa and Jason Sisler, Robert C.(Maria Pitchford) Montgomery II, and Megan Corey; four step- grandchildren; three great grandchildren, Brianna Ardis, Chloe Sisler, and Braxton Ray Montgomery; sister Joan Strickling of Belding; several nieces and nephews. The Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Easton United Methodist Church.Interment will take place at a later date at Easton cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from Memorial Contributions may be made to the Ionia Free Fair or to the Sparrow- Ionia Home Care in memory of Mr.Robert C.Montgomery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Ionia.
