She was born August 8, 1864, at Hanover Conn., coming to Ionia at the age of five years with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Motzer. Others in this family were Mrs. Lena Lauster, who died December 24; Mrs. Christens Pickhaver, of South Bend, Ind., Fred, Jr., who died in 1883; Anna, who died in 1882, and a sister, Bertha, and a brother, George Motzer, who were born in the Motzer home on Rice street and where Katherine died December 29, at 7:30. Miss Motzer was of a lovable disposition and always doing something for others, even after she became ill, she forgot her own pain as she ministered to the happiness of those about her. She contributed much to the erection and maintenance of the home, which she shared with her brother and sister. She was a great lover of flowers and those about the home were of her planting and in her care until her illness of pneumonia early in 1932. From this she never fully recovered and during the summer suffered a recurrent attack of heart disease, being ill all summer and fall and in a gradual decline, but making no complaints about her sufferings. A favorite in the neighborhood with the children, she was familiarly known by them and adults as “Katie.” She was the homekeeper while her brother, George, and sister, Bertha, were employed, and for the mother, who died July 7, 1915. Two weeks before her death her sufferings were intense but she remained cheerful and never discontinued her interest in children, especially those of her niece, Mrs. H. R. Moulton. She was a member of the Evangelical church and regular in attendance until failing health and the devotion to her mother prevented her from going except occasionally. The funeral services will be conducted from the home, 407 Rice street, Saturday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. A. L. Bingaman. The burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
