Took Her Own Life.

Orange Township the Scene of a Tragedy.

Mrs. Frances Mousehunt of Orange township ended her life by suicide last Friday 
afternoon.  She was the owner of some 240 acres of land on section ten, having 
accumulated the greater part of it since the death of her husband about twenty 
years ago.  She had no children and made a practice of spending the nights at 
the home of her brother, Thaddeus Rowe, who lived near.

On the morning of the suicide she went to her own home, and the last time she 
was seen alive was about two o’clock, when she talked with the rural mail 
carrier.  At about four o’clock, Mrs. Rowe went to the house to take her home 
for the night and found her lifeless body upstairs hanging from a rope.  She 
had placed a board across the opening leading to the attic, placed a rope 
around it, adjusted the noose to her neck and jumped from a chair.  Mr. Ed. 
Rowe, another brother, was summoned and cut the body down, which was still warm.

The following coroner’s jury was summoned by Justice Ross Benedict:  Frank 
Perritt, Frank Adgate, Lute Riker, Lafe Linebaugh, James Jordan and Chauncey 
Jordan.  They rendered a verdict that deceased came to her death by hanging.

Mrs. Mousehunt was 58 years of age and had been in poor health for several 
years.  She is said to have been addicted to the use of morphine, and from all 
the facts and circumstances it appears that the suicide had been planned for 
some time, as she had made disposition of her property.

The funeral was held Monday.
