Caroline R. “Cuddy” Mowatt, 81, of Ionia passed away Wednesday June 18, 2003.  
She was born on November 20, 1921 in Ionia, the daughter of Lloyd and Ruth 
(Burnett) Smith.

She graduated from Ionia High School in 1939 and attended Central Michigan 
University.  Caroline was a member of the Ionia Women’s Literary Club and 
Historical Society.  “Cuddy” was a devoted citizen of Ionia and Ionia County.

She married Jack Mowatt on July 23, 1945 and he preceded her in death in 
1984.  She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are her children, John (Diana) Mowatt of Weston, Florida, Brad 
(Beth) Mowatt of Muir, and Susan (Ted) Burdo of Hamilton, Georgia; 
grandchildren, John (Pam) Mowatt, Samantha Mowatt, Alex Mowatt, Jay Mowatt, 
Ned Mowatt, and Ted Burdo; great-grandson, Ethan Mowatt; and sister, Muriel 
Guest of Waterford.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Schrauben-
Lehman Funeral Home, Cook Chapel, 200 Rich Street, Ionia.  Interment will take 
place at Tuttle Cemetery, Ionia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia Historical 
Society or a charity of one’s choice, in memory of Caroline “Cuddy” Mowatt.
