The funeral service for City Treasurer John Mueller was very largely attended from St. John’s Lutheran church on Sunday afternoon, and the officiating minister, Rev. B.H. Succop, repeated in the English language, the sermon which he first preached in German. His text was verses 25 and 26 of the 73d Psalm, and from it he recounted numerous truths which were truly applicable to the Christian faith of deceased. Mr. Mueller was one of the founders of St. John’s Lutheran church and society, and for the many intervening years up to the time of his death, he was an active worker and consistent supporter of the church. Mr. and Mrs. Mueller were two of a party of fifteen who came almost direct to Ionia from the Faderland in 1873, and his is the first death in Ionia from this troupe?. Others in the party still living in Ionia, are Mr. and Mrs. Carl Krueger, Fred Hasse, and Charles Lange. He was a member of the Lutheran Sterbekaassen Verain, which society attended the funeral in large numbers, accompanying the remains from the late home to the church, and thence to the cemetery. The bearers were also taken from the membership of the Verain, being: John Speckin, Louis Melzow, Frederick Hasse, and William Warnke. [Transcriber's Note: There is a notation on the obituary card that he was buried in Highland Park Cemetery.] File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/m/mueller9982gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/mifiles/ File size: 1.9 Kb
