S. A. Mulhauser, of Detroit, son-in-law of Robert Baerd of Ionia, died suddenly Thursday afternoon in a hotel at Flint following a heart attack he had suffered while in that city on business. Major Mulhauser had gone to Flint on a matter involving an automobile insurance adjustment and it was while he was there that the heart attack overcame him. He was taken to the hotel where his death followed within a short time. He had not been well for some time but his trouble was not thought to be of a serious nature. Major Mulhauser left Ionia all of 18 years ago, going to Detroit and later to Grand Rapids where he represented the Central Casualty West Insurance company and others. He returned to Detroit about 15 years ago and has since lived there, where in late years he has been developing his own automatable insurance business. When a resident of Ionia he clerked for N. Silver for a number of years and was active in fraternal and business circles. When the United States entered the war he entered the service as a captain and was brevetted major upon muster out. During the period of war service he served at Camp Custer and other cantonments as mobilization officer both at Camp Custer and at Notre Dame. He was married here to Miss Helen Baerd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baerd, who with two sons, Robert and Frederick, survives him.
