Ionia Standard, 16 Sep 1902

Edward Murphy, father of Edwin A. Murphy of this city, died at 2:30 this 
morning, at the farm homestead in Lyons township.  Deceased was passed 80 and 
feeble, but he had only been seriously ill two or three days.

Deceased was born in Ireland, Dec. 10, 1821.  He came to Canada in 1847, and to 
Rochester, N.Y. a month later; finally located in Ionia county in 1854.  In 
1865 he took possession of the farm which has ever since been the family 
homestead.  Deceased was married to Miss Mary A. Randall April 16, 1855, and 
the union was blessed with two sons and two daughters: James A., Edwin A., Emma 
M. and Nellie, of whom Edwin A. and Nellie survive.  Mrs. Ellen McDonald, of 
this city, mother of Mrs. T.A. Carten, is a sister of deceased.  Funeral 
service at family residence, at 9 a.m. Thursday.
