Born in Keene township January 24, 1970, she was the daughter of Willard and Caroline Hawley, pioneer residents of that area. She was graduated from Ionia high school in 1889, and taught school several years in Ionia county. After her marriage in 1896 to Edwin A. Murphy, she resided in Ionia until 1920 when the family moved to Lyons. Mr. Murphy died in 1945. Mrs. Murphy was the oldest past matron of Queen Esther Chapter Order of Eastern Star and was a past president of the County Association of OES. She was also a member of Lyons Methodist church. Surviving are a son, Dr. Gilbert Murphy of Allen park; and a daughter, Mrs. Florence Schilbe of San Diego, Calif.; four grand and eight great- grandchildren. A daughter, Helen, preceded her in death in 1941. Funeral service will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Lyons Methodist church with the Rev. Gerald Hudlund officiating and interment in the family lot at Highland Park cemetery. The body will be at Boynton funeral home until noon Monday.
