July 26, 2013 BELDING- Denise Louise (Holcomb) Murphy, 52 of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Belding, died unexpectedly Wednesday July 24, 2013, at home. Denise was born on Dec. 14, 1960, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Edwin and Nellie (Brown) Holcomb. Denise grew up in Belding and graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1979. In 1984, following her mothers footsteps, Denise entered the U.S. Navy, retiring in 2004. During her 20 years in the Navy, Denise served on the USS Constellation in the Pacific and later was stationed in Guam, Hawaii and on both coasts. She earned the rank of E-5 at her retirement. Denise married Ralph Patterson in 1985. From this union two daughters were born, Courtney and Kaitlin. In 2006, Denise married Martin Murphy. Denise was a past member of the First Baptist Church in Belding. She loved to sing in the Choir and was active in Awana. She was welcomed into heaven by her father, Edwin; her grandparents, Lee and Gladys (Bentley) Holcomb and Reuben S. and Mary (Troop) Brown. Denise is survived by her husband, Martin Murphy, of San Diego; her daughter, Courtney Patterson and Kaitlin Patterson of San Diego; her mother, Nellie Holcomb recently of Belding and now of Cascade; her sister, Deborah and Richard Cameron of Caledonia; her nieces, Kristin and Jacob Ray of Boulder, Colo., Taylor Cameron; her nephew, Eric Cameron both of Caledonia and a host of other family and friends. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Belding, with Pastor Bruce Burfield officiating. Memorials may be given to a trust fund being established for her daughters. Envelopes will be available at the church or Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Belding where funeral care has been entrusted. Online condolences may be given at www.jffh.com.
