Edmunds was born in Yates, Orleans County, N. Y. Jan. 10, 1847, and moved to Orleans township, Michigan with her parents when about eight years old. She was married to Thomas Murray of Orleans August 19, 1862 by Rev. R. D. Howe, just before Mr. Murray left for the southland to serve in the Union army, and after nearly three years of service he returned to her. They were faithful to each other for over 54 years. He passed away Jan. 15, 1917. No children ever came to their home, but Mr. and Mrs. Murray were father and mother to her who is now Mrs. Fred Hawley and to Walter Clements, who lived with them from the time he was seven years old until he was 18, when he was drowned in Long Lake. Mrs. Murray was converted to Christ at the age of 27 and has been a faithful member of the Methodist church until her health prevented her attending. After a short illness from bronchial pneumonia she passed away April 24, 1917, aged 73 years, three months, 14 days. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Mary Wilbur, of Orleans and Mrs. Nettie Easton of Central Lake, and two brothers, Eugene and Charles Edmunds, both of Orleans, besides Mrs. Fred Hawley and family and a host of friends. A familiar figure has gone. One we loved has gone to meet other loved ones. She has “come with singing unto Zion.” The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the house, conducted by her pastor, Rev. R. V. Birdsall, and burial took place in Orleans Cemetery.
