Three years later he moved to Waukesha, Wis., where he resided until 1849, when he located in Greenville, Mich. In 1858 they moved to Ionia county. In response to the call of his country he enlisted in the year 1861 in Co. B 25th Mich. Infantry, under command of Capt. Samuel L. Demorest and 1st Lieutenant Capt. Frank R. Chase. In 1865 he received an honorable discharge. After the war he engaged in the lumber business and operated a mill with his father. In 1868 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Raby, with whom he lived in holy and happy union until death severed the tie August 10, 1906. Mr. Murray then moved with his two sons, Elton and Will, to his farm in Mecosta county, where he resided until his death February 10. He leaves three sons, Elon R. and Will J. of Mecosta and Charles Murray of this city. One brother is still living in Kalkaska county. He had been in poor health for the past three years. He was for many years a devoted member of the United Brethren church and a Sunday school teacher. The funeral service was conducted by his late residence by Rev. I. S. Bussing and the remains laid to rest in Riverridge cemetery, February 14. The casket was draped with the flag presented to his company by the ladies of Smyrna. Edgar L. Barry, a comrade, assisted in the last sad rites.
