James Musgrove, one of Odessa’s well known farmers, passed away Wednesday morning at his beautiful home on Jordan Lake street after a serious illness of nearly eight months. Last January Mr. and Mrs. went to Ann Arbor where Mr. Musgrove underwent an operation and for a short time he seemed to improve but gradually his sickness grew more serious. Mr. Musgrove was born in 1839 in Albridge, N.Y., coming to Michigan in 1858. He married Sirona Lowrey in 1860. He bought his present farm, four and one half miles northwest of town, from the government in 1861 and cleared the land himself. Of a family of four brothers and five sisters two brothers, Thomas of Wraxetor, Canada, and Robert of this place, and two sisters, Mrs. Henry Anway of Grand Rapids and Mrs. William Rogers also of Lake Odessa are living. About five years ago Mr. and Mrs. Musgrove left the farm and came to Lake Odessa to live, erecting for themselves a beautiful home on Jordan Lake street. They were the parents of four children, a son dying in infancy, a daughter, Mrs. W. Jameson who died when 22 years of age, J. D. Musgrove of Austin, Minn., and Mrs. Ardella Peer of Lake Odessa. Besides his wife and son and daughter five grandchildren survive him. The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the late residence. Rev. Trevor Jones, a former pastor of the Congregational church, will officiate.
