E 3rd MI. (Continuation of his first posted obituary) This was the beginning of the laborious Battle of the Wilderness that lasted two days and two nights. It was delayed to carry a wounded Lieutenant back to the field hospital. The hospital was a big tent with a number of tables on which were strapped wounded men and their legs and arm were taken off. The poor men were given nothing o relieve their pain. The legs and arms that were taken off would have made two cords if piled up. I did not stay there long but went back to battle. I escaped with two bullet holes in my clothes. The battle was on May 5, 6, and 7, until 6 p.m., when the rebels stated for Spotsylvania. we met the rebels again at Spotsylvania. Mr. Musgrove's mind was very clear on his war experience but his own written story ends abruptly as above, he finally becoming too weak to carry out his original plan of writing his life history. Several years ago he married Mrs. Belle King who has been a faithful wife devoted to his care, in his declining years. He leaves besides his widow, four children by a former wife, Mrs.Ruby Carpenter of Remus, Robert Jr., of Grand Rapids, Clair who resides in Nevada, and William whose residence is unknown. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the home under the auspices of the American Legion Post who also acted as pall bearers. Rev. C.N. Stormes of Casco gave the sermon. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery. Among those in attendance from out of town were: Mr and Mrs Robert Musgrove and family, Mr and Mrs Henry Healey of Grand Rapids, Mr and Mrs William Healey of Otsego, Mr and Mrs Harry Healey of Ottawa. Mr and Mrs Clyde Anway and Mrs Ida Chamberlain of Wayland.
