Myers, 51, for 21 years a prison officer at the Ionia reformatory died at his home at Long Lake Tuesday afternoon at 3:20 o’clock where he has lived for the past four years. He has been ill since 1941. He was born in Trufant August 17, 1987, the son of Edward L. and Julia Myers. He came to Ionia at the age of 17 years and entered the service in World War I two years later. He received his discharge in February, 1919. He married Leona Curtis of Ionia May 20, 1920, and they lived almost all their married life in this city. He began work at the Michigan reformatory in 1922 and remained there for 21 years as a prison officer. He is a member of Girard-Horrocks post, American Legion. Surviving him are the wife; a son, S1c Gordon Myers stationed with the U.S. navy at Norfolk, Va.; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward L. Myers, of Vicksburg; a sister, Mrs. John Charles of Vicksburg; and a nephew, Gerald, of Vicksburg. Funeral services will be held from the Boynton funeral home Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Dr. J. Lee Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Saranac cemetery.
