Miss Nash; she was nineteen years of age, was one of the social favorites of that village, after her sudden taking away so early in life casts a gloom over the whole village. She had been sick about a week and the dread disease which only developed on twenty four hours before her death, soon ended a bright young live just blooming into womanhood.Only a short prayer was held at the cemetery and the remains were laid to rest in the Clarksville burying ground. Miss Nash being a general favorite naturally a great many people visited her during her brief illness, not being aware that she was all the while suffering with diphtheria, as the doctor in attendance seemingly did not recognize the disease. When the case grew serious a doctor from Freeport and another from Lowell were called in and it was recognized as diphtheria, since which the time there has been much uneasiness manifested by the great number who have been exposed to the terrible disease. Funeral Director Weed of this village called there on Wednesday morning immediately after the young lady's death, and proceeded at once to apply all know methods to disinfect and fumigate the premises and all that had been connected in any way about the place, he receiving much praise for his work from the parents and friends, and from the doctors in attendance. The place was given a most through fumigating before Mr.Weed would allow the funeral to take place, and then the strictest of measures were applied to prevent further exposures. We hope Mr.Weed's efforts will be effective but it hardly seems possible that the disease can now be stopped after it was permitted to go as it did. With prompt measures taken at the beginning as were applied after death there would have been no cause for so much easiness now among the Clarksville people.
