Sentinel-Standard - Monday, August 21, 1978

SARANAC- Nels P. Nelsen, 91, of 7125 Jackson Rd., died at his home Friday 
evening.

He was born in Denmark December 3, 1886, the son of Kristian and Elsie Petersen 
Nelsen and was a farmer most of his life, living in the Ionia area since 1924.

Mr. Nelsen was a member of St. Johns Lutheran church in Ionia.

He married the former Thora Christensen in Denmark May 18, 1915 and served with 
the Danish army in World War I.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Peter Chirstensen of Illinois; one 
daughter, Mrs. Karen Rose of Saranac; one brother Peter C. Nelsen of Nebraska; 
one sister, Anna Hansen of Denmark; eight grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren 
and two great-great-grandchildren. 

Services are Tuesday at 1 pm from the St. Johns Lutheran church with Pastor Leo 
Kostizen officiating.

Burial is in Saranac cemetery.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the Roetman-Lake funeral home 
Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 pm.

A memorial fund is established for St. Johns Lutheran Church.
