Ionia Sentinel Standard, 2003

W. Marvin Nelson, 81, of Ionia passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2003 in 
Lansing.  He was born June 18, 1921 in Ionia the son of Emil and Elma (Olsen) 
Nelson.  Mr. Nelson was a lifelong resident of the Ionia area.  He retired from 
the State of Michigan and was an avid farmer most of his life.  He was a member 
of the Ionia Masons and also enjoyed camping in his Airstream.

Marvin is survived by his wife Virginia, with whom he would have celebrated 60 
years of marriage with in June; sons, Sandy (Helen) Nelson of Fenton, Jon 
(Diane) Nelson of Ionia, and Brian (Kathy) Nelson of Marion; grandchildren, 
Alison Nelson, Laura Nelson, David Nelson, Amy Nelson, Carrie Nelson, Kristen 
Nelson, and Emily Nelson.

The funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday at Cook Funeral Home, 220 
Rich Street, Ionia, with Rev. Martin Culver, Pastor of First United Methodist 
Church, officiating.  Interment will be in Balcom Cemetery.  The family will 
receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and 
Saturday from 2 p.m. until the time of service.  For those desiring, memorial 
contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the 
American Diabetes Association in memory of W. Marvin Nelson.  Arrangements are 
entrusted to the Cook Funeral Home, Ionia.
