He was born April 16, 1909 in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, the son of John and Irene Nelson. He was a graduate of Fairhaven High School. He was a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Army. He is retired from Riverside Correctional Facility. He was the owner and operator of the Lyons Mill Race Heritage Shop. He was a member of the Lyons Masonic Lodge 37 F&AM, the Saladin Shrine of Grand Rapids, the Lyons-Muir Historical Society, the Ionia Kiwanis Club and the Lyons United Methodist Church. He was married to Elaine Clemets in April 1964. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Robert Nelson of Lansing; one step-son, Tondell Clemets of St. Joseph, Michigan; one brother, James Moriaty of Hillsdale, N.J.; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Hull Memorial Chapel with Rev. Byron Coleman of the Lyons United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Lyons Cemetery.
