After completing an apprenticeship, he worked for the Wyandotte News and later for the Plymouth Mail. After serving in the National Guard and WWII, he returned to the Plymouth Mail. He married Gloria Lynn Clark in 1952 and the couple became owners of the Sunfield Sentinel. After 37 years, they sold the Sentinel to present owners, Jerry Maurer and Art Kimball, retiring July 1990. He was a member of the Sunfield Fire Department, Sunfield Village Council, Sunfield Lions Club, the VFW, and Zion Lutheran Church in Woodland. Services were held Sept. 21 at the Rosier Funeral Home, Mapes-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield, with Rev. Alan Sellman of Zion Lutheran Church in Woodland officiating. Pallbearers were Keith Hampel, Dick Ferrin, Jerry Maurer, Lindsay Welch, Larry Mapes, and Hans Huyck. Interment followed at Sunfield Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church or the S.P.Y.’s Scholarship fund.
