Robert Donald Nelson, 74, of Ionia passed away Feb. 15, 2012 in Ionia. He was 
born Feb. 4, 1938 the son of Charles and June (Randall) Phillips. Robert served 
in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Lyons VFW and a past member of Lyons Fire 
Department.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Mary Nelson of Ionia; children, Rickey 
(Patricia) Nelson of Gowen Deborah (Dennis) Dingman of Pierson and Robert 
(Terri) Nelson of Cedar Springs; step-children, Jack (Shirley) Proctor of 
Lyons, John (Darlene) Proctor of Florida, Donald Proctor of Lyons and Ronald 
(JoAnn) Proctor of Lyons; step mother, Mae Phillips of Saranac; sisters, Irene 
(Vern) Barclay of Ionia, Linda Syrjala of Ionia, Shirley Daggett of Saranac and 
Joyce (Ivan) Hardenburg of Mason; nine grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 
eight great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces 
and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two step-daughters, Sue and Cindy; and 
a brother-in-law, Kenneth Syrjala.

Cremation has taken place upon his request. Services will be held at a later 
date. Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. Online condolences may be
