     MICHAEL JAY NELSON

Died June 20, 2025- age 70 of Ionia.
Born July 2, 1954 in Ionia to Earl & Joan (Higbee)Nelson.
Mike graduated from Ionia High School with the Class of 1972.
He married Roxanne L. Lasco October 13, 1990 in Ionia.
He was a lifelong farmer on the 100 year old family farm.
Mike worked as a Truck driver for Hausserman Trucking, Chrysler Trim Plant,Hood-
Stout & American Bumper(Ventra).
He was a former member & past secretary for the Ionia Elks Club, member of Ionia 
Hunting & Fishing lodge, the Ionia Moose #998 & Ionia FFA.
Mike enjoyed hunting & had a lifelong love of Weimaraner's.
Mike lifelong buddies were Terry Johnson, Robin Johnson, & the late Rex Young.
Survived by his wife Roxanne "Rocky" Nelson of Ionia, daughter, Karen 
"Snicklefritz" (Scott) Leak of Ionia.
Grandchildren,Justin (Beth)Leak, Ashley (Josh) Reisbig & Lindsey 
(Samantha)VanOchten.
Great-grandchildren,Hudson Reisbig, Elise Reisbig, Edison VanOchten & baby 
Harrison VanOchten coming soon.Sister, Denise Peabody of Ionia, niece & nephew 
Kim Hoeksema & Kevin(Christine)Peabody.
Preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother-in-law Kenneth Peabody, 
cousin J.Tom Higbee, Nephew,Bruce Hoeksema.
A Memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 4-7 PM at Lake 
Funeral Home in Ionia.
Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Ionia Moose Lodge or Ionia 
Hunting & Fishing Club.
