Katherine (Ockert) (Heath) Nelson, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, February 
27, 2007 in Ionia. She was born on May 12, 1912 in Muir, MI the daughter of 
Louis and Maude (Pease) Ockert. Katherine had been a resident at Heartland 
Care Facility since December 2006. She was married to Fred Heath of Palo, MI 
and Rowley Nelson of Ionia. 

Katherine is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Carmon Nelson Sawtell 
in 2004, a granddaughter Karen Sawtell Holland in 1996, a great-grandson 
Damien Holland in 2004, a grandson John Fox in 2005, and 3 sons-in-law Joe Fox 
Jr. in 1977, Art Sawtell in 2001, and Marvin Cook in 1992. 

She is survived by her daughter Betty (Heath-Fox) Cook of Ionia, 3 
grandchildren Connie (John) Heppe of Orleans, Cathy (Randy) Guernsey of Ionia, 
and Cary (Jenny) Sawtell of Fenwick, 6 great-grandchildren Kim (Gary) 
Goodemoot of Lake Odessa, Chris (Christa) Heppe of Greenville, Derek (Bethany) 
Guernsey, Sam Grand-Girard and Kelsey Guernsey of Ionia, and Dustin Sawtell of 
Fenwick, 4 great-great-grandsons Travis and Benjamin Goodemoot of Lake Odessa 
and Curtis and Cameron Heppe of Greenville, and many cousins and friends. 

At her request cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be conducted 
by Rev. Melvin Fox at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the Schrauben-
Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia. Inurnment will take place at Oakwood 
Cemetery in the Spring. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 
11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Contributions may be made to the American Heart 
Association in Katherine’s name.
