The Ionia Standard, Friday, August 9, 1918


Mogens Nelson, aged 56 years, died on Sunday at noon, at the home on the old 
Bates farm, two miles south of this city.  His death was very unexpected, as 
he has been in apparent excellent health until the past week.  He was taken 
sick Thursday morning and grew steadily worse until he died on Sunday noon.  
On Saturday night he was operated upon by Dr. Vandenburg of Grand Rapids.  An 
acute case of peritonitis, already beyond control, was discovered.

Funeral services on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 o’clock, from the residence, 
and at 2:00 o’clock from the Evangelical church in Ionia, Rev. Deabler 
officiating.  Interment in Highland Park.

Deceased was greatly esteemed by all who know him, as a citizen and 
conscientious church worker.
