Neumann, 51 year old former Ionian. Mr. Neumann died Tuesday night at Sturgis Memorial hospital after an illness of several years. He had been seriously ill for the past year. Born in Ionia, January 10, 1891, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Neumann of Ionia, he lived the early part of his life in this vicinity. He moved to Detroit 13 years before World War I and lived there until he enlisted in the Army. He saw service in France and was still there at the time the armistice was signed. He returned to Ionia after the war and was employed at Smith and Smith’s store for about three years. He had also worked at Smith and Smith’s when he was a young man of high school age. He attended the Ionia schools. He was a member of the Ionia Masonic Lodge, the Elks Lodge and also of the American Legion. Surviving are two brothers, C.C. Neumann and Thomas J. Neumann, of Sturgis, and three sisters, Mrs. Mike Terkos of Ionia, Mrs. Alga DeLong of Leland and Mrs. Dorothea Jordan of Battle Creek. Funeral services will be conducted from Sturgis at 10 a.m. Friday morning and from the Myers funeral home in Ionia at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Interment will be at Highland Park cemetery.
