The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Wednesday, May 14, 1980

Gertrude Neustifter, 65, of W. Main St., died late Monday evening at the Ionia 
County Memorial Hospital.  She was born in Grand Rapids Nov. 11, 1914, the 
daughter of Cornelius and Laura Hart Spruit.  

She graduated from Creston High School in Grand Rapids.  She was married to 
John Neustifter on Sept. 9, 1935.  They moved to Ionia to make their home in 
the late 1940s.  She had worked as a bookkeeper for J.C. Penny Co. in Ionia 
for over 20 years.  Her husband preceded her in death March 15, 1975.  She was 
a member of the First Christian Church.

She was survived by two sons, Jan of Indiana and James of Woodland, Mich; four 
grandchildren; one brother, Gerrit Spruit of Garland, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. 
Robert (Marie) Reed of Grand Rapids.  Mrs. John (Martha) Steghuis also of 
Grand Rapids.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10 a.m. from the Leddick 
Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Dow of the First Christian Church officiating.  
Burial will be in Easton cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be 
Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  The family will be at the funeral home from 7-
9 p.m.  A memorial fund has been established for the Ionia County Cancer 
Society.  Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
