Leo P. Newell, 98, of Saranac passed away Jan. 2, 2015.  He was born Feb. 2, 1916,
in Ferry Twp., the son of William M. and Dorothy E. (Bates) Newell.  He married
Phyllis Dulyea Oct. 7, 1939, in Grand Rapids, she preceded him in death in 1997.

Leo was a member of the South Boston Church.  He was very active in the Republican
Party.  He played softball for many years even into his late 70s.  Leo loved to
garden and be outdoors.

Surviving are Leo’s children, Suzanne (Richard) Grieves, Gary (Darlene) Newell,
Nancy (Jud) Grassmid and Mary (Pat) Collier, all of Saranac; grandchildren, Mark
(Karen) Grieves, Polly (Jerry) Darby, Lisa (Kevin) Klutman, Andrea (Joel) Mutschler,
Lori (Chuck) Paddock, Mike (Anne Marie) Newell, Amber (Brian) Short, Nicole (Jim)
Clark and Sean (Kara) Collier; 22 great grandchildren; and three great great
grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, three brothers, Lyle, Tom and James;
and one sister, Mary Heimer.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the South
Boston Church with Pastor Ron Tuinstra officiating.  Interment Chapel Hill Memorial
Gardens.  Visitation will be on Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in
Saranac.  Those wishing may make memorial contributions to South Boston Church.
