Dec. 26, 2012 Lyle Milfod Newell, 98, of Gulliver, Mich., formerly of Saranac passed away Dec. 22, 2012 in Grand Rapids. He was born April 1, 1914 in Edmore, Mich., the son of William and Dorothy (Bates) Newell. Lyle served in the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and was a World War II veteran. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a lifetime member of the Carpenters Union and a member of the National Rilflemans Assoc. Lyle is survived by his son William (Donna) Newell of Saranac; daughters, Jean Leson of Saranac and Dorothy (Steven) Luce of Wayland; brother, Leo Newell of Saranac, six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27 at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac with Pastor Jeff Kahl officiating. Visitation will be Thursday 10 a.m. until time of service at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in Lyle's name to Eastown Ministries.
