Manistique—Funeral services for Oleta I. Newell, 76, of Gulliver, a former 
Saranac resident, were held Jan. 20 from the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home, 
with James Gribbell officiating.

She died Jan 18.  She was born March 7, 1911 in LeRoy, Mich., the daughter of 
Elijah and Ora Griffee.  She was employed by the National Lead Corp., Grand 
Rapids, for 30 years before retirement in 1973.  

She was married to Lyle M. Newell in 1957; he survives.  Also surviving are 
two daughters, Mrs. Don (Dorothy) Bignall of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Joe (Jean) 
Leason of Saranac; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three brothers, 
Floyd Griffee of Dubuque, Colo., Elijah Griffee of Grand Rapids, and Paul 
Griffee of Ashton; seven sisters, Ida Arnold and Inez Horsfall of LeRoy; Effie 
Jacobson of Curtis, Ora Simms of Tustin, Norma Beckett of Granite Falls, 
Wash., Fay Gribbell of Engadine, and Ann Griffee, also of Engadine.  She was 
preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.  

Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Grand Rapids.
