E. A. Waldeck, officiating. Her death occurred there late Wednesday afternoon, July 4th. She was the widow of James Newman, who died nine years ago. Her maiden name was Susan Moon and she was born near Jonesboro, O., 75 years ago last January. Her marriage to Mr. Newman occurred 60 years ago, in Ohio. About 35 years ago the family moved from Ohio to Lyons and later to Portland township, having for some time resided northeast of the village. Eight children survive. They are Edward, Eagle; Joseph, Findlay, O.; Daniel, Edge Hill, Mo.; James, Grand Blanc; Mrs. Evart Quick, Eagle; Mrs. Cora Smithson, Lansing; Mrs. Mabel Hailey, South Bend, Ind.; Mrs. Minnie DeLaVergne, Portland. Mrs. Newman had been in feeble health more than a year and during the last three months had been confined to her bed. Pneumonia developed a few days before her death. All of the children had been frequent visitors during their mother’s long illness. Mrs. Margaret Quick, the oldest daughter, a practical nurse, was with her 10 weeks.
