Ionia Sentinel Standard - May 10, 2011


Gerald Claude Newman, 64, of Fenwick passed away May 6, 2011 in Carson City. He 
was born April 22, 1947 in Ionia the son of Ford and Marge Newman.

Gerald graduated from Ionia High School class of 1965 where he was a star 
player in football and basketball. He graduated from Central Michigan class of 
1969 and after college he went to work for D&W Foods in Grand Rapids as the 
store manager and later for Olsens Grocery of Traverse City as a supervisor. 

He also traveled the United States and Puerto Rico where he and Jane taught 
marketing and merchandising. He eventually took over ownership of Shiels Tavern 
in Hubbardston for 10 years. Gerald was a tutor for students of math and 
physics. He loved fishing, hunting and football. He was a very devoted family 
man.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Jane of Fenwick; children, Stephanie 
(Keirsun) Scott of Lake Ann, Dennis (Misty) Moore of Texas and Denise (Steve) 
Wright of Texas; sister, Lynn (Donald) Rothberg of Washington D.C. and nine 
grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and no services are being planned at this time. 
Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home of Ionia. Friends and family may visit our 
home at any time to share their memories.

Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions to Carson City Hospital Nursing
