Burial will be at Sturgis. Born in Ionia, a son of the late Gustive Newman, the deceased left here as a young man, entering the motion picture business at Greenville. Later he transferred his interests to Charlotte where he operated a theater for several years prior to moving to Sturgis. In addition to his theater interests, he owned and supervised a large mint and cabbage farm near Sturgis on which he was working when fatally stricken. Surviving are the widow, the former Jennie Cook of Ionia; two sons, Major Martin C. Newman, attached to an Illinois training camp, and Cpl. Paul Newman, who was en route home on a furlough from a Washington camp when his father died; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Terkos of Ionia; Mrs. Olga DeLong, Leland, and Mrs. Dorothy Jordan, Battle Creek, and a brother, Thomas Newman, of Sturgis. One son, Fred was killed in a plane crash 20 years ago. Mrs. Newman is a sister of Henry J. Cook of this city.
