OWEN): THE DAILY SENTINEL-STANDARD, IONIA, MI, 1-22-1936, p 5: "Deaths - Mrs. Flora Newton, 607 West Main street, died Wednesday morning at 1:00 at her home following a lingering illness. Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 25, at 2:00 at residence." THE DAILY SENTINEL-STANDARD, IONIA, MI, 1-23-1936: "Deaths - Mrs. Flora L. Newton, 77, died at her home, 607 West Main street Wednesday morning at 1 o'clock following an illness of three weeks. She was born in Wilson, N. Y. May 28, 1859, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Bixby. She was married November 26, 1884, in Ionia to Owen Newton whom she first met when she was visiting at the home of her brother. Mr. and Mrs. Newton moved to the old Newton homestead in Easton and about 25 years ago they moved to Ionia to the home where Mrs. Newton died. Two children were born to this union, one died in infancy in 1885 and Clara C. Newton died in 1912. Mrs. Newton was a devout member of the Methodist church and its societies. Surviving Mrs. Newton are two nephews, Ray Bixby, of Easton, and Glenn Bixby, of Detroit, and three nieces. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence with Rev. M. W. Duffey officiating and interment at Oak Hill cemetery."
