Ionia County News, 16 Sep 1926

W. E. Nicles, well known resident of Portland, died at the home of his daughter,
Mrs. Joseph Phillips, last Thursday, following a long illness.  The funeral was held
from the daughter’s home last Saturday afternoon, in charge of Rev. J.H. Stewart,
pastor of the Baptist church, and interment was made in Muir cemetery.  He was born
in a log cabin near Muir, and reared in that vicinity.  For a quarter of a century
he lived in this city and was a carpenter by trade.  He is survived by his widow, a
daughter and one sister, Mrs. Sophia Fiebing of Muir.
