Nichols, 56, died suddenly at his home at 422 Pleasant street Saturday morning at 6 o’clock. He had been suffering from heart trouble for over a year. He was born September 15, 1891, in Ionia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Nichols, former Ionia county prosecuting attorney. At the time of his death, Nichols operated the Michigan Credit service. He was graduated from Olivet college in 1914, where he was on the football and baseball teams. In 1916, he was graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in law. For over 20 years he had been active in Michigan racing circles and was recently racing a four-year-old Mary Allertan Guy, with much success. It has been said that Nichols could recite from memory the complete pedigree of any race horse in the country. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; a daughter, Patricia, at home; four sons, George E. Nichols of Port Clinton, Ohio, and James K. Nichols, Jr., Arthur R. and Robert D., all at home; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Myers funeral home with the Rev. H. E. Ellis of Belding officiating. Interment will be in the family lot at Highland park cemetery.
