Victoria Nichols, 96, of Lakeside, California, formerly of Trufant, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2004. The only child of Joe and Violet Corwin Lowing, she was born December 23, 1907, at Lake Odessa. A devoted wife and mother, Victoria lived in Trufant for almost 50 years, where she had been an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star. For many years she tended bar at the former Maple Valley Tavern in Trufant and was a champion pool player. She also had been a member of the swim club and enjoyed crocheting. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Stanley Nichols; and husband, Benjamin “Ben” Nichols, on June 12, 1973. She is survived by a son and two daughters-in-law, Charles and Farrie Nichols of Lakeside, California, Delores Nichols Retzloff of Taylor; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, Greenville, conducted by Trufant Chapter 383 Order of the Eastern Star. Burial in Trufant Cemetery will take place in the spring. Envelopes for memorial contributions to the charity of one’s choice are available at the funeral home, where the family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 6 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday.
