Nickel, 80, of Belding, died Thursday evening, Feb. 12, 2009, at Carson City Hospital. Fain was born Feb. 25, 1928, in Wayne, the son of Milton and Arlo VanWarmer Nickel. In earlier years, Fain was a mechanic at the Ford Garage in Belding. He later did carpentry work around the Belding area, was a die maker for 20 years at Jordan Manufacturing in Belding and was the fire chief for the city of Belding, retiring in 1992. He also served as a volunteer firefighter, worked in the police department and for the ambulance and taught first aid and CPR. Fain enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and collecting coins. He had a love of family and will be greatly missed. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Belding. Fain was married on June 8, 1947, in Belding, to Marguerite Robinson and she survives along with their children, Mickey and John Osborn of Perrinton, Danny and Vicki Nickel of Belding, Linda and John Baker of Walker and Marianne Nickel of Belding. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jennifer and Justin Osborn, Nicholas Nickel, Angela Baker; one great-grandchild, Jacklyn Rose Baker; his step-grandchildren, Ed Woodward and Mary Jo, Chuck and Amy Jo Woodward, Amy Hansen and Lonny Hansen, John and Beth Baker and Ryan Baker, several step-great-grandchildren; and his sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and John Heim of Traverse City. Fain was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Belding, with Pastor Connie Shatz officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding.
