Lake Odessa Wave Times, 11 Aug 1938

John Nickerson, son of Levi and Eva Wirick Nickerson, was born near Climax,
Morrow county, Ohio, January 10, 1857, and died at his home in Campbell
township, Ionia county, Mich., August 2, 1938, aged 84 years, six months and 23
days.

He came to Michigan at the age of 17 years and took up his residence on the farm
which has been his home ever since.  He was married to Sylvia Webster, November
20, 1894.  Mrs. Nickerson died May 1, 1937.  There are no children surviving
this marriage.

Mr. Nickerson united with the Campbell Brethren church more than a score years
ago and he and Mrs. Nickerson attended the last communion of the church which
was the 50th jubilee anniversary.

He was a man of wide acquaintance, a good neighbor and had many friends.

He leaves to mourn their loss one cousin Rosella Shaffer of Ithaca, Mich., and
Mrs. Fern Fontaine, an adopted daughter and family, and a host of friends and
neighbors.

The funeral was held at the Thornapple Brethren church with Reverends Carey and
McRoberts officiating.  Rev. and Mrs. Cary sang.  Burial was at Clarksville
cemetery.

Those from away to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Kuebler of
Cresline, Ohio; Roy Scheidler, Alans, O.; Charles Scheidler, Detroit; Mr. and
Mrs. George Rule and son Guy and daughter Fern, Alma; Miss Bessie Shafer and
three sisters of Ithaca, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Rule and son Charles,
Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Griffeth and family, Lakeview, and Mr. and Mrs.
Howard Hanson, Smyrna.
