Evan Nielsen died March 16, 2010, from accidental injuries sustained at the 
farm.

Evan was born in Weston, Iowa, near the Missouri River, the sixth of eight 
children. He attended Graceland College in Iowa transferring to Michigan State 
University to earn his bachelors, masters, and specialist degrees. He was a 
teacher at Ionia Public Schools, the first principal of Rather Elementary, and 
Assistant Superintendent of schools for many years. Since 1988, Evan and his 
wife Linda have farmed south of Ionia at Brookwood Farms, raising shorthorn 
cattle. He died as he was born where he loved most, on the farm.

He is survived by his loving wife Linda Corrigan Nielsen; daughter Connie 
Nielsen (Jim) Bunn of Grand Rapids; sons Craig (Lisa) Nielsen of Oregon and 
Randy (Marilyn) Nielsen of Kentucky; seven grandchildren; a very special 
daughter (in spirit if not blood) Cindy (Mike) Green of Portland; a brother 
Everett of Iowa; a sister Marie (Kenny) Wilson of South Carolina; two great 
grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 
brothers, Norman, Don, Fremont and Dana, and sister, Edna.

In lieu flowers, please consider the Ionia Public Schools Scholarship Endowment 
Fund or the Ionia County Animal Shelter.

A private graveside service for family and close friends will be held on 
Friday, March, 19.
