November 10, 2020 Excerpts from Grand Rapids Obituary Raymond Nielsen Jr. Died October 25, 2020-age 85 Sunday at Lakeland, Florida Regional Hospital. Born November 15, 1934 in Grand Rapids, Mich. Son of Raymond and Glennis (Buck) Nielsen. Graduated from South High School, Grand Rapids class of 1953. Army Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, 3rd BTN 3rd RGT July 1957. Received award for Most Outstanding Soldier Co. A, 4th BTN at Ft. Jackson, S.C on Nov. 8, 1957. Attended Mich. State for Animal Science and farmed many years in Saranac. Purchased a Dairy farm in 1956 and sold it in 1968. Was the first to build a "Free Stall" Milking Parlor and ranked in the top 10 Dairy producing farms in Mich. Traveled the Eastern States later in the 1960s through the 1970s as the Leader in the National Farmers Organization (NFO) to get fair pricing for Dairy Farmers in the Midwest. Modernized a laundryMat in Saranac and started manufacturing industrial, water treatment chemicals & home-use products. Sold the LandryMat after a few years. In 1980s began national Agricultural Products Development in Byron Center, MI. Moved the Natural organic Agribusiness to Brooksville, Florida and stated farming a 300 acre Citrus Grove in Labelle, Florida. He traveled the world teaching and speaking at Universities, Seminars, trade Shows, and other Venues. Competed running in several Marathons in different cities in the U.S. Ray married Cheryl Kay Teunis on July 24, 1957. They were married 57 years. Ray and Barbara (West) Schuch were partners in life for six years. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia Yvonne Lacy Flynn, Betty Jeanne Riemer, Lorrine Beverly Mohr, and Liane Carlyl Kasteline. Also his daughter Kathy Lynn (Nielsen) Conklin. Survived are his sister Arlene Elizabeth Rackow, former wife, Cheryl Kay (Tenuis) Nielsen, Partner, Barbara Jean (West)Schuch, one daughter, Kimberly and four sons, Kevin (Connie), Kraig (Debra), Kris, Karsen (Lisa), nieces and nephews, Nine grandchildren, Jessica & Travis Nelsen, Bradley Esterline, Justin, Kelby, John, Jerad, Kala, and Ainsley Nielsen. Eight great-grandchildren, Colin Nelson, Bailey and Grace Esterine, Winnie Rose, Cora Mae, and William Nielsen.
