NIELSEN IONIA - Marion A. Nielsen, 90, a long-time resident of ionia, died at the Clark Memorial Home in Grand Rapids Saturday, Nov. 9, after a long illness. She was born in Lowell, June 30 1895, the daughter of Edward H, and Winnifred Painter Spencer. She attended the Ionia Schools. She married Viggo Nielsen on July 12, 1916 in Ionia. She had a member of the Ionia First United Methodist Church since 1905 and also a member of Mrs.Hawley's Sunday School class and the United Methodist Women. She was a life member of the Stevens Thomson Mason Chapter of the DAR and Queen Esther Chapter 35, Order of the Eastern Star. She helped start the Blue Star Mothers and was a long-time member of the Women's Literary Club. She was the great granddaughter of Sarah Cornell, an early Ionia founder family. Surviving are her husband, Viggo J.Nielsen, three children, Esther Van Hammen of Grand Rapids, Spencer Nielsen of Orange,Calif.,and Roger Nielsen of Lawton; 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, one sister, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Montgomery-Roetman Funeral Home. Burial wil be in Saranac Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. A Memorial has been established for the First United Methodist Church or the charity of Choice.
