NIEMELA
Lewis Gust Niemela was born March 5, 1920 in Menahga, Minnesota to Charles 
and Anna (Bock) Niemela. 

He married Anna (Wheelock) Niemela Sept. 8, 1962 whom survives him along with 
their children Lou Anna (Brian) Daggett, Lydia (Robert) Borton and Lavina 
Niemela and foster children Carol Moore, his grandchildren; Andrea Daggett, 
Amber (Larry) Miller, Autumn (Joe) Daggett, Ariel (Carl) Daggett, Sarah 
Pitsch (Eric), Michael (Samantha) Kuiper and 15 great-grandchildren and two 
on the way. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Hilma, Mayme, and Anna, 
brothers Archie and Clifford and several nieces and nephews. He attended 
Bowstring school and Jessie Lake Baptist church in Minnesota. He was a 
farmer, logger and star route mail carrier. He retired from the janitorial 
staff at the Saranac schools. He attended the River of Life church in 
Saranac. MI and was active in the construction of the fellowship room. He was 
the church treasurer for 20 years. 

He passed peacefully in his sleep with his family at his side on January 27, 
2017. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the River 
of Life church at a later date. Donations can be made to the M.S. Research 
Foundation. 

Arrangements are being made by Lake Funeral Home of Saranac. Online
