They were the sons of Frank B. and Florence A. Nims. Many will remember the Nims family as they were local residents for a number of years and Mr. Nims owned and operated the elevator which is now Smith Bros. Herbert, 70, passed away at the Livermore Veterans Hospital March 24 after a long illness. He was operated on for lung cancer last September. A veteran of World War I, he served overseas with the 5th Field Artillery, First division and took part in the St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne offensives and the Army of Occupation until discharged August 25, 1919 after nearly two years of service. He was associated with the Rindge Properties and retired in 1952 from his work in a Berkeley department store. Voigt, 74, founder of the Nims Furniture Co. passed away April 17 at the Oakland hospital following a heart attack as he had a heart condition for the past 10 years. He and his father went to San Francisco in 1905 and survived the earthquake and fire of April 1906. They were joined by the rest of the family in 1906 at Stockton where Voigt and Herbert were associated with their father in various business and farming operations until his death in 1930. Voigt remained in the furniture business with his son until his retirement two years age. Both are natives of Michigan and are survived by a brother Harry of Stockton, twin of Herbert, two sisters, Gertrude Chemnitz of Berkeley and Florence Wolfinger of Oakland. Voigt is also survived by his wife Dorothy, a son Frank and two grandsons. Private funeral services were held at the Berkeley Hills Chapel. Mrs. Nims was one of the charter members of the local Congregational church.
