Sentinel-Std. - Monday, 1 December 1947

Gus Nimz, 68, 124 Summit street, Ionia, gas station owner, died at the Ionia 
County Memorial hospital Sunday  morning at 3:25 o'clock after being a patient 
for a week. He had been in ill health for about two years.

He was born in Germany June 17, 1879, and came to this country when only four 
years old. He had been a resident of Ionia for 60 years. Mr. Nimz was married 
to Martha Lemke December 27, 1900. He was employed at one time by the Ionia 
Wagon Works for about 14 years. He was a plumber with the J. A. Holbrook 
company ad a steam fitter and plumber with the Michigan reformatory for many 
years. A Spanish war veteran, Mr. Nimz served in Cuba. Since 1932 he had been 
owner and operator of the Shell gas station on the corner of East Lincoln 
avenue and Jackson street until last year, when he leased it to the Caswell Oil 
company. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church, a former 
charter member of the Moose lodge and a former member of the Elks.

He leaves his widow, Martha; two sons, Carl of New York City and James of 
Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Carol Johnson of Royal 
Oak.

Services will be conducted from the Joynton's funeral home Tuesday afternoon at 
2:30 o'clock with the Rev. A. T. Gutnecht of Belding officiating. Interment 
will be in Highland Park cemetery.
