He was born on August 10, 1924 in Dalmuir, Scotland the son of Alfred and Agnes (Caldwell) Nixon. Robert lived most of his life in Michigan and graduated from Alma College and McCormick Seminary. He has served five churches during his ministry, the last was the First Presbyterian Church in Ionia ending as the Pastor Emeritus. After retiring, he served the First Congressional Church in Portland again ending as the Pastor Emeritus. Robert was on the committee for Mental Health for 17½ years and was an advocate for C.O.M. He volunteered at Ionia Hospital & Ionia Area Hospice and worked at the Service Center. Robert helped where ever he could. Robert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joan Nixon of Ionia; children, David Nixon of Madison Heights and Peter Nixon of Southgate; sisters, Irene (Leo) Sredzinski of Howell; cousin, Elanore Webster and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Ionia with Jon Clifton & Dr. Marilyn Danielson officiating.
