Nolan, 42, Ionia businessman for the past 13 years, died unexpectedly about 10 o'clock Saturday night in Bay City. He and Mrs. Nolan and four other couples left Ionia about noon Saturday for Bay City were the men represented the Ionia Knights of Columbus in the state KC bowling tournament. He had just completed rolling the ball down the alley and returned to his seat when death struck suddenly. For several years he was a member of a prominent softball team as well as playing golf and bowling. A lifetime resident of Ionia, he made his home the past several years with his family at 523 West Washington Street. He was born May 7, 1918 in Ionia the son of Mrs. Charlotte Nolan and the late John Nolan. He attended the SS Peter and Paul elementary school and was graduated from the high school in 1935. In July of 1939 he was married to Jeannine Balice. Following several years of employment in the wholesale and retail magazine business he became co-owner with C. Anthony Balice of the Ionia News Agency in 1948. During his lifetime he has held active membership in the Knights of Columbus, Elks, Ionia County country club and the Ushers club of SS Peter and Paul church. Surviving besides his wife, Jeannine, are a son, Tony, and two daughters Dona and Jan, and his mother, Mrs. Charlotte Nolan. Funeral service will be Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at SS Peter and Paul Catholic church, with burial in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Rosary will be recited Tuesday night at 7:30 at Phelps funeral chapel."
