It becomes our sad duty to report the demise of another of Campbell’s citizens, who died on Thursday, Mar. 9th, 1905, after an illness of nearly a year, which finally culminated in a liver complaint of a very severe nature. Tristim, better known as “Tim.” Norcutt, was born on February 29th, 1852, near Allen, Hillsdale county, Michigan, where he, with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Milo T. Norcutt and a brother, Z.T. Norcutt, lived until the death of his mother, which occurred when Tim was about fourteen years of age. Then the father and two sons came to Ionia county, settling on a farm on the town line between Odessa and Campbell townships - the farm now owned by John Tasker Sr., of Lake Odessa. Here the family resided until in 1879, when they disposed of this place and moved onto the farm now owned by Rev. S.M. Smith of Campbell. Their next move was from this place in Campbell to a farm near Jordan Lake in Odessa - the present site of the village of Lake Odessa - where they remained two years, then they returned to Campbell, settling on a farm near the Campbell post office, purchased of E.P. Gifford now of Saranac. They remained on this farm until about five years ago, when the father, Milo T. Norcutt Sr., exchanged farms with the younger son, Z.T. Norcutt, since which time Tim, and his parents, his father having remarried, lived on the last mentioned place until his death. Tim was a cheerful, willing fellow whom to know was to like, and always making friends and losing none. He had a wide circle of acquaintances who join with the bereaved relatives and friends in mourning; and we but voice the sentiment of these in extending sympathy to those effected in this hour of sorrow. Although of frail stature, the deceased was possessed of great powers of endurance and strength, coupled with courage, which enabled him to do his part in clearing the wild forest farms above mentioned, and helping bring them to a high state of cultivation. He always did his part in all undertakings, and he was considered by his parents as their main stay in their declining years, which makes the loss doubly heavy for them. The funeral services, which were attended by a large concourse of the friends who desired to pay a farewell tribute to the memory of the departed, were conducted at the Norcutt homestead by the Rev. Isaac Mourer, assisted by Rev. O. Lash, of Woodbury, after which the remains were interred in their final resting place in Campbell cemetery. Among those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Norcutt, Mr. and Mrs. James Norcutt, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson and Mesdames E. Terry, Ed. Snobble, Will Barker and Chas. Kart. of Lake Odessa. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/n/norcutt1709nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 3.3 Kb
