March 1, 2025 NORDHOF Nancy Evelyn Nordhof, age 91, of Lowell, passed away n Tuesday, February 18, 2025. She was born on April 9, 1933, in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Boyd and Evelyn (Lewis) Merriman. On November 29, 1950, she married the love of her life, Richard Nordhof Jr.; he preceded her in death in 2022. Nancy loved to read and kept a stack of books by her chair. She even convinced her husband to read Westerns, She loved puttering around the gardens and growing new flowers.She and her husband watched the birds at their feeders and could identify the species of all of them. Her birdwatching book is full of notes on the birds that came by. She and Richard traveled around the United States,Australia and New Zealand, and the Panama Canal.Her photos from the trips were all labeled with the places they had been. In addition she was an accomplished painter and at the end of one of her painting classes, the teacher told her that she couldn't each her anymore because Nancy's skills had surpassed hers. She loved music and played the piano and accordion before learning the hammered dulcimer. She preformed many times with a group of like enthusiasts.In addition she liked to solve the puzzles in the Penny Press puzzle books and had one or two of them by her chair along with her stack of books. She is survived by her children, Diane(Floyd)Kloc of Saginaw, Delores Miller of Freeport, Barbara(Tom)Leeuw of Arizona,Tom(Lori)Nordhof of Owosso, David (Monica) Nordhof of Nevada and Howard(Linda) Nordhof of California; sisters, Dorothy Brinks, Janice(Rudy)Banas and Marji (Lee) Schwake; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband,Richard, brothers Gerald,Jack and Harvey Merriman, sister June Dagen, son-in-law, Lyle Miller ,daughter-in-law Tara Nordhof, and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Rose Nordhof. Her family would like to give a special thanks to the staff members at Maple Ridge Manor and West Michigan Hospice for the excellent care they provided in the last chapter of her life.She always spoke highly of the people who cared for her. To honor her memory, we suggest curling up with a good book, planning that trip you want to take, sit outside and listen to the birds, or play your favorite music and think about the good times. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 18th, 2025, from 1-4PM at the Lowell Showboat. Arrangements are being made in care of Lake Funeral Home of Saranac.
