She was born August 13, 1915 in Quincy, Ill., the daughter of Daniel L. and Mary B. Frese Muehlenfeld. She married John R. Murphy in 1937 in Lansing. Mary and John worked together in construction, bought, remodeled and sold apartment houses and lake property. They were the first couple in Lansing to have Real Estate Licenses. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lansing and was very active in the church and school. Mary received her real estate broker's license in 1962 and opened an office in Lansing known as Murphy and Assoc. In 1972 she and John moved their office to Ionia. There they were members of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and while in Ionia she belonged to several parish and community groups. John Murphy died in Ionia in 1974. In 1979, Mary married Lyle W. North. She later closed the real estate office and they retired to Sebring, Florida. Lyle North passed away in November 1993. Mary later moved to Belding where she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Ave Maria Guild and the RCIA program. Mary is survived by Dan North of Orleans; her grandchildren, Randy and Shelli North of Belding, Dannie and Jeff Allen of Fenwick and Rich and Kathy North of Ionia. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. In keeping with Mary's wishes, her body has been given to Michigan State University Anatomical Gift Program. A Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Belding with her nephew, Monsignor Michael D. Murphy officiating. No visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
